Path of Exile Item Upgrading
In Path of Exile, item upgrading is one of the most effective ways to upgrade your equipment without relying on big-ticket drops or trade. This article will show you how to upgrade your gear effectively.
Upgrades to equipment provide an additional bonus to the item's stats. This bonus is based on the upgrade component's level and rarity.
Components
Upgrade components are the items that improve your armor and weapons better. They can be found by destroying enemies, buying them from karma vendors, or finding them in the form of item-spheres. They can also be rescued from equipment with them or by using the highest-quality salvage kits like the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. Upgrade components cannot be destroyed when you remove them from the item.
The main function of upgrade components is to enable an item to be upgraded but they also serve other purposes. They can be stacked to increase the level or the amount of experience gained by upgrading weapons or gear. They can be forged to give additional benefits. A crafted glyph can increase the chance of upgrading its target, and a boost upgrade increases the defense or attack capabilities of weapons.
You can attach an upgrade template to an item by selecting it from the edition GUI. This will show an upgrade component list that the item can be upgraded to. Alternately, you can use the workbench to select an upgrade template. In either case, the item will be upgraded when enough upgrade components have been gathered.
Each component has a distinct experience multiplier, which determines how much more experience an item receives when it upgrades with that component. For instance, organic components offer a higher experience multiplier than mechanical ones. It is recommended to upgrade your organic components first until you reach the next rank in the weapon or equipment and then switch to the mechanical upgrades.
In addition to the experience multiplier every item also has the maximum number of upgrades that it can receive. The number of items that are upgradeable is determined by their upgradeable rank, and the type of upgrade they are able to receive. For instance, the highest possible upgrade for a weapon is a weapon of tier 10. The most common weapon upgrade is a tier 6 gun and a armor upgrade for tier 5.
Sets
A set is a collection of objects which all have the same bonus. Each item can be upgraded at the minimum once. The upgrade will increase the guaranteed bonuses. The first time you upgrade an item, its primary stat will be +1. Following upgrades, the primary stats will be increased even more (for instance, +1 for 12+/13+/14+) and every time an item is upgraded, one of its additional stats increases randomly.
